As President of AT&T Louisiana, Sonia A. Perez is responsible for developing the overall strategic direction of AT&T’s corporate activities in the state. Appointed to her position in 2010, Sonia leads AT&T’s state workforce of more than 4,200 employees and 6,300 retirees, oversees AT&T’s operations including its technology deployment and infrastructure investment in the state, and directs teams responsible for implementing public policy, legislative, regulatory and philanthropic initiatives. She is the first woman to serve as President-AT&T Louisiana.
Sonia currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Xavier University of Louisiana and also holds positions as Chair of Louisiana’s business roundtable, The Committee of 100 and as Secretary of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. Additionally, she has had the distinction of being appointed by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards as Chair of his Economic Development Transition Team and to the Workforce Investment Council. Sonia has remained engaged with her alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin, and is a recipient of the university’s 2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award. She serves on the UT System Foundation Board. In 2006, she was the first Latina elected president of the Texas Exes, the university’s alumni association.
Prior to being named President of AT&T Louisiana, Sonia served in a variety of capacities in Houston and South Texas, most recently as Vice President of AT&T Texas, where she was responsible for the company’s initiatives in the Southeast Texas region. During that time, she served on the Houston board of J.P. Morgan Chase, and the executive committees of the Greater Houston Partnership and the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She also served on the board of the Memorial Hermann Hospital System.
Sonia has received numerous distinctions and awards: 2015 Weiss Award from the New Orleans Council for Community and Justice, 2015 Role Model from the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans, 2014 induction into the Louisiana Center for Women in Government and Business Hall of Fame, 2013 “Inspiración Award” from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana. She was honored as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Persons of 2013 by Family Services of Greater New Orleans and New Orleans City Business Magazine has also named her to its Women of the Year list. The Louisiana Women’s Conference named her among the state’s “Most Powerful and Influential” women. Early in her career, she was named an Outstanding Young Texas Ex by her alma mater.
Sonia has served on numerous search committees, including that of the president of Xavier University, and has been called upon to address industry and business trends for a variety of state and national organizations.
Sonia holds a Bachelor of Journalism Degree with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Her hobbies include studying World War II history, and she is proud to serve on the board of the National World War II Museum.
Sonia and her husband, Javier, are the proud parents of three children.
