Joseph P. Farr from Monroe

He is a native of Monroe, Louisiana, was educated in the Monroe City School System and graduated ULM in 1975 with a degree in business.

He began his career in insurance with his father at Rodriguez-Farr Insurance Agency, which he later purchased in 1981.  He acquired another agency in April, 1983 and merged with Jerry Thomas in July, 1983 to form the Thomas and Farr Agency.  Thomas and Farr Agency is the largest privately owned independent agency in the region with the main office in Monroe and satellite offices in Shreveport and Bastrop.

Joe has served on several insurance company advisory boards, including CNA, Commercial Union, St. Paul, Americas, and LWCC.  He is also currently serving as Chairman of the United Fire Group Panel.

He is past president of the ULM Foundation Board, former member of the ULM Athletic Scholarship Board, member of Monroe Rotary, life member of the Monroe Youth Baseball Board, member of the Monroe Housing Authority Board, past chairman of United Way, and is currently serving as President of the The Louisiana Purchase Council of the Boy Scouts.

He is married to Drew Brister and has three children – Shonda, Patrick, and Peyton.  They have also just welcomed the newest addition with their first granddaughter, Ava Drew McIntyre. He attends Covenant Presbyterian Church in Monroe.





Through the development and promotion of the Louisiana Transfer degree, a robust articulation and transfer system is now in place.

Graduation Rates are increasing overall.

Louisiana higher education fall enrollment has increased by 16,167 students since 2008.

Working with BESE, the Board of Regents has helped to ensure that more students are graduating from high school ready for college or career. ACT scores are on the rise.
